This week, digital marketing research firm comScore indicated in a report that ecommerce spending in Q4 2010 came in at a record $43.4 billion, up 11 percent over the same three month period in 2009.
This marks the fifth consecutive quarter of positive gains for retail ecommerce spending, with Computer Software, Consumer Electronics, Books & Magazines, Computers/Peripherals/PDAs, and Toys & Hobbies all posting growth of 15 percent or more.
Increasing growth trails back to Q4 of 2009, which up to that point had seen four consecutive quarters of negative or flat ecommerce spending. But the report notes that the last three months of 2010 saw a boost in consumer confidence, along with enterprise ecommerce sites increasing discounts and promotions, to help produce a record-breaking quarter. And let us not forget the most recent Cyber Monday, which became the first day to ever surpass a billion dollars in online spending.
