Marco Specialties, Inc. was founded in 1985 with one mission: provide pinball machine owners one source for Everything Pinball. Going online in 1999, Marco has grown to offer over 30,000 parts for thousands of games, including thousands of hard to find parts. When Marco Specialties approached HotWax Systems, it was experiencing problems with support and running into technical limitations with its Everest ERP system. Marco was therefore looking to re-platform away from Everest and onto a new system that would better support its e-commerce expansion plans. The new system needed to include not only the B2C e-commerce storefront, but also a good deal of back end functionality. Also, historical data needed to be migrated out of the old system and into the new one.
HotWax Systems leveraged HotWax Commerce, our fully customizable, enterprise-class, open source, digital commerce solution to meet Marco’s needs.
Anyone who has experience re-platforming an enterprise e-commerce system knows that data migration can be a major part of the effort. We acknowledged that together early on, and worked with Marco to successfully map its old data into its new system, thereby preserving important historical information on orders, customers, and more.
With HotWax Commerce, we also designed and built a new, custom storefront including faceted product navigation, blog, calendar of events, cross-sell and up-sell, product reviews, bulk pricing options, custom promotions, customer accounts with order tracking, and much more. The new storefront is very fast and highly usable.
For payment and shipping, Marco wanted to offer customers multiple options to suit their needs. So, we built the site to accept major credit cards and PayPal, and shipping integrations including FedEx, USPS, and a custom international shipping integration with iGlobal.
In the back office, Marco needed a system that could handle the rest of its supply chain. The system we delivered addressed these needs by facilitating everything from supplier management and automated re-ordering to complete order management and fulfillment (pick / pack / ship, returns, etc) along with chart of accounts setup and posting and line-item accounting transactions.
