HotWax’s Legacy of Apache Software Foundation Support Expands With New Memberships

Three more key executives at HotWax Systems invited to join the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) as Members

HotWax Systems, the leading global service provider for Apache OFBiz® application development, is celebrating the addition of three more key executives to the ASF Members List. Long time ASF Member Jacopo Cappellato, CTO and Apache OFBiz Vice President and Project Management Committee (PMC) chairperson, was joined this past week by Anil Patel, HotWax COO, Ashish Vijaywargiya, HotWax VP of Operations, and Scott Gray, HotWax Software Developer and executive team member. All three have long been OFBiz PMC Members and committers.

A Proud Moment

On Thursday, May 4th 2017, Anil, Ashish, and Scott were voted in as official Members of the ASF. This distinction is reserved for only those individuals who have been nominated and elected by current members based on merit and contribution, and who are taking it upon themselves to care for the evolution and progress of the foundation.

Founded in June 1999 by a group of IT enthusiasts, the ASF is a decentralized open source community of developers, focused on refining and expanding a collection of over 350 free and open source software (FOSS) projects. Considered the premier non-profit, open source software organization in the world, the ASF and its projects are characterized by a collaborative, consensus-based development process and an open and business-friendly software license.

“Apache OFBiz is an integral part of our core product and of our company at large.” – Anil Patel, HotWax COO

Counting around 650 members and over 6,000 contributors, the ASF’s 100M functional lines of code (out of 150M+ total) have been developed over 65,000 person years, exceeding Linux’s codebase threefold in comments alone, and are valued at US$7B. Among the most renowned ASF projects are the Apache HTTP Server®, the world’s most popular Web server software, and Apache OFBiz, a product for the automation of enterprise processes that includes framework components and business applications for ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), CRM (Customer Relationship Management), E-Business / eCommerce, SCM (Supply Chain Management), MRP (Manufacturing Resource Planning), MMS/EAM (Maintenance Management System/Enterprise Asset Management).

HotWax Systems developed the Apache OFBiz Accelerator, a Unified Commerce Solution based on Apache OFBiz: “We have contributed over 15,000 hours of development to the OFBiz project alone. We have 10 OFBiz committers on staff, and about a hundred trained OFBiz Developers. As you can see, Apache OFBiz is an integral part of our core product and of our company at large.” said Anil Patel.

We also participate in many other Apache projects, and have sponsored several ApacheCon conferences, including our 2008 Platinum ApacheCon sponsorship in New Orleans, which was probably the wildest.” he added. HotWax has joined major tech companies including Google, hp, and Yahoo! in sponsoring 8 of the last 10 ApacheCon events.

Anil continued, “The implications of this continuous involvement and contribution is a very profound understanding of the software on the part of our company, and a direct feeling of dedication and responsibility towards the code’s health and evolution, as well as that of the community itself.
